The deepest swimming pool in the world opened in Poland in December 2020.
Deepspot, in Warsaw, is 148 feet deep. It beats out the previous title holder Y-40 Deep Joy in Italy at 135 feet deep. The elaborate training facility is for divers, from first-timers to experts, who use scuba gear.
It takes over 2.1 million gallons of water to fill the pool, roughly 27 times more than a standard pool. Deepspot is made to simulate cavernous and shipwrecked environments underwater. Swimmers can explore different scenes by traveling through maze-like underwater tunnels.
“There are no magnificent fish or coral reefs here so it is no substitute for the sea but it is definitely a good place to learn and to train in order to dive safely in open water,” Przemyslaw Kacprzak, a diving instructor, told Deeper Blue.
Deepspot was made as an alternative to outdoor diving which can be risky and dangerous. It offers a safe, controlled environment that allows divers to tune up their skills or swim recreationally with fewer threats.
But even if you’re not a diver, you can enjoy Deepspot as a viewer. Onlookers can watch swimmers explore the blue waters from the outside. There are even underwater hotel rooms that are 16 feet deep as well as training programs and courses.
It took more than two years to build the state-of-the-art swimming pool and an estimated $10.6 million.
